DNC Crystal Lake

This poster design was printed and displayed throughout Crystal Lake and the surrounding Chicago suburbs to promote the 2024 Democratic National Convention. As part of the event, the City of Crystal Lake served as one of the official vendors for the DNC, hosting a street festival that featured live entertainment, local vendors, and community-focused activities for visiting delegations. The posters played a key role in building excitement and visibility for the event, helping connect the local community with a nationally significant political gathering.
Project Overview
The Democratic National Convention (DNC) is a large political event held every four years by the Democratic Party, where delegates from across the country come together to officially nominate their presidential and vice-presidential candidates. When the DNC takes place in Illinois, especially near Chicago, it comes with a variety of public events that go beyond politics. These include street festivals, live music, cultural events, panels, and community gatherings featuring local businesses that showcase local culture.
Challenges
One major challenge is creating political visuals is that they must be memorable while remaining neutral, respectful, and aligned with the message. The design has to balance boldness with typography, colors, and imagery that communicates to a diverse audience. The pressure of deadlines, was also a challenge for this project. Additionally, political design has several considerations, such as proper use of logos, candidate likenesses, and official branding guidelines.
Results
The final result of this DNC poster project was a successful promotional campaign that effectively raised awareness for the 2024 Democratic National Convention. Several posters and flyers were printed and displayed throughout Crystal Lake and the surrounding Chicago suburbs.
