This book design showcases a new nation invented by me, named Serafina. It is a winter nation that is made up of the Canadian islands, Greenland, and Iceland. The country was established in 1987, during the Euro-American war. The islands of Canada broke away from the mainland of Canada due to a change in rulers and new laws. The islands of Canada combined with Greenland, and later made a temporary alliance with Iceland. Serafina was only supposed to be a nation created to survive the war, but its people had other plans and further developed the country after the war ended.








Project Overview


All the nation’s branding, including a flag, government seals, currency, passport, and mobile application, has been carefully designed to match the country’s identity. After creating this branding, this book was made to serve as a national handbook that informs and educates viewers on the new country and its values. The book design and text was carefully selected to build additional context while displaying what Serafina’s documents would look like.  

Challenges


The main challenge for this project was coming with a new country and its storyline. My country, Serafina, has become a popular tourist attraction for skiing, sledding, and snowboarding. Its capital is Verra, which comes from the french word “verre” that means glass. The national languages of Serafina are French and English. Serafina has an arctic landscape that is filled with ice, snow, and glaciers. Due to this, the country is represented through the icon of a snowflake. Serafina has 2 main mountain ranges named Guilbriand Summit and Dominants Mountains. To represent Serafina’s victory in the Euro-American War, the county’s government seal features mountain terrain. Without this harsh landscape, Serafina would not have been able to withstand Norway’s invasion during the war. Serafina’s flag features its main snowflake icon with a split blue and white colored background. The split of the background color represents the uniting of Greenland and the new Canadian islands with Iceland to form an alliance. 

Results


The official currency of Serafina is Serf. The currency features the snowflake on the left top corner followed by an official note description and year. Each bill contains a photograph of a part of Serafina’s beautiful landscape including the Riverdale Farm, Alimond Tower, Castle of Dunne, the Dominants Mountains, the Clock Tower, and the Nelway forest. The Serafian Passport features symbols like the diamond pattern, snowflake, and photographs from the currency. The country of Serafina has 3 main departments, including the Department of Health, Department of Safety, and the Department of Justice. Each department is represented by a government seal that showcases the department’s color and title. Serafina National Bank, which has several locations in the country, is available on mobile devices as an application. Serafina National Bank offers checking, savings, business, and other accounts through their services.
